Personal tuition
Emma teaches individual harp lessons (pedal and lever harp) to a wide range of students aged from 8 to 80. From beginners to advanced…
…including adult re-starters and those taking music lessons for the first time. She has a rounded approach including creative music making and improvisation from the first term as well as including basic technique and notation and interpretation. Emma began teaching in 2001 and this is one of her favourite aspects of the job.
She is an understanding and enthusiastic teacher and aims to tailor the lessons to suit the individual.
There are many varied reasons for taking instrumental lessons. Emma will be accommodating of your wishes whilst also teaching a full and varied curriculum including performance opportunities and examinations if desired.
When considering taking up the harp whether for yourself or a child the first thing you will need to consider is obtaining a harp. There are a few options and the majority of students opt to hire a harp to begin with. There are a number of harp retailers and a variety of sizes and designs of harp. A harp which is fully levered with at least 34 strings is usually the most suitable for beginners.
Second hand harps are also available. Harps which have been well looked after will retain their value and do improve as they are played in. If you come across a harp for sale locally do consider it but please seek advice before you buy.
Lessons are available at various hours to suit throughout the week on a flexible basis. The hourly rate is £28 – shorter lessons are charged pro rata.
